WELCOME!

Welcome to Sock Monkey Productions, the media production wing of the Folk Studies Program at Western Kentucky University

Here you can find out about various projects produced by Sock Monkey Productions which focus on aspects of Kentucky’s rich traditional culture, including crafts, music and food. First up is a radio program and accompanying online photo gallery about the
basket making heritage of South Central Kentucky.

The current production team consists of two of our graduate students, Rachel Hopkin and Amanda Hardeman, working under the guidance of
Dr Michael Ann Williams. Rachel came to Western with a background as a radio producer and had worked for the BBC and other major broadcasters. Amanda has experience in the fields of photojournalism, ethnographic video production and folklore. Rachel and Amanda have combined their multimedia experiences to create quality radio programs and photo stories about Kentucky heritage.

You’ll be able to see and hear the results of their efforts here. The radio productions themselves are also being broadcast on
WKU Public Radio.

For more information, call WKU’s
